Beyond Tour ambitions, Vingegaard aims to complete trilogy in Giro d’Italia
**Title: Jonas Vingegaard Sets Sights on Giro d’Italia for Grand Tour Trilogy**
In an exciting announcement, 29-year-old Jonas Vingegaard is gearing up for his inaugural participation in the Giro d’Italia, aiming to complete a rare Grand Tour trilogy after his recent triumph in the Vuelta a España. “Of course that played a role in my decision,” Vingegaard states. “I have already won in France and Spain. Now I want to do the same in Italy.”
Reflecting on a remarkable season, Vingegaard celebrates his victory at the Vuelta and a second-place finish at the Tour de France. “It was a good year, but not exceptional,” he admits. “I have already won the Tour twice. For me, a truly successful season still depends on winning the Tour. Celebrating another victory in Paris is something I continue to dream about.”
With eyes set on the coveted pink jersey, Vingegaard expresses his eagerness: “I would love to add the pink jersey to my collection.” Before making his debut in Italy, he will participate in an array of events, starting with the UAE Tour and leading up to the Giro through the Tour of Catalonia.
Vingegaard explains, “I have been thinking about riding the Giro for a while now. It’s one of the biggest races on the calendar, and it’s also one I have never done before. I really want to experience it, and now feels like the perfect moment.” He notes that winning the Vuelta provides him with additional motivation to pursue victory in Italy, which will carry a different strategy compared to his approach for the Tour de France. “The organization has designed a great course for the Giro. Perhaps not as demanding as in recent years, which makes combining the Giro and the Tour a favorable option for us.”
Historically successful in the Tour de France, with two overall wins and three second-place finishes, Vingegaard looks forward to the challenge of winning again: “Winning it for a third time would be incredible. Of course it will be difficult, though it may be more exciting than the past two editions.” He acknowledges that fans can expect decisive moments in the final week of the Tour this year, emphasizing the importance of preparation for the team time trial in Barcelona. “That’s a discipline we invest a lot of time in as a team, and it will be a special way to start the race.”
Concluding his thoughts on the upcoming races, Vingegaard remarks, “As for what comes after the Tour, that really depends on how I’m feeling. The focus is fully on the Giro first and then the Tour. Those are my main goals. And for those, I’m extremely motivated.”
Fans of cycling can watch Vingegaard’s journey unfold starting from the UAE Tour, leading into the Volta a Catalunya, followed by the Giro d’Italia and culminating with the prestigious Tour de France.
