Venezuelan Cyclist Orluis Alberto Aular Wins the Eighth Edition of CRO Race
Zagreb, October 1, 2023 – Venezuelan cyclist Orluis Alberto Aular has emerged as the champion of the eighth edition of the CRO Race despite a dramatic crash just 200 meters before the finish line in Zagreb. The final stage was won by New Zealander Campbell Stewart, while Aular held on to secure the overall victory.
Aular had a strong start in the race, with Alexander Kristoff and Ethan Hayter chasing closely behind. However, a crash by Aular in the final moments of the race brought about a shift in dynamics.
“Despite crashing at the very end of the race, I feel very good because I managed to take the win in the general classification. We came here with a clear goal, and that was to win the GC. The entire team worked for me all week, and you could see this today. We are leaving Croatia with two stage wins and a win in the general classification, which is a big thing for a small team like us,” said Aular.
In the end, Aular maintained a three-second lead over Kristoff, while Hayter secured third place in the general classification. Kristoff, however, took home the blue points jersey, while the green king of the mountains jersey was awarded to Jonas Rapp. Magnus Sheffield claimed the white jersey for the best young rider.
The eighth edition of CRO Race was not only a thrilling competition for the professional cyclists but also featured the fourth Kids CRO Race. Winners Elena, Adrian, Paola, and Nikola were announced as part of the official ceremony.
The race was met with enthusiasm and support from officials and dignitaries, with Minister of Tourism and Sport Nikolina Brnjac handing the winner’s trophy to Aular. The event was also attended by representatives from the Croatian Tourist Board and various municipalities.
