21-year-old Jarne Van de Paar has made the leap from the Lotto Soudal Development Team to the WorldTour Team at Lotto Dstny. The Belgian U23 champion has signed a three-year contract, with plans to remain in the Development Team in 2023 before transitioning to the WorldTour Team in 2024. Van de Paar expresses his excitement for this opportunity, stating, “I am at home here, and I know everyone very well… I am looking forward to working with them again.”
Team manager Kurt Van de Wouwer describes Van de Paar as a sprinter with potential in the Flemish semi-Classics. Reflecting on Van de Paar’s journey, Van de Wouwer acknowledges the challenges he has faced, including the Covid-19 pandemic and a recent knee injury. However, Van de Paar has consistently proven himself as a talented rider, securing victories each year. His recent Belgian championship win solidified his place in the professional ranks.
The Development Team at Lotto Dstny will move up to UCI continental level in 2023, allowing riders to compete alongside the WorldTour Team in ProSeries or .1 races. CEO John Lelangue explains that Van de Paar will spend an additional year in the Development Team to allow for a more gradual transition. In 2023, he will have opportunities to ride with the WorldTour Team while also mentoring younger U23 riders.
Looking ahead, Van de Paar expresses his gratitude for the specific trajectory planned for his future. He is eager to prove himself and fulfill his potential. Van de Paar states, “Both my team and I know that there is margin for improvement. Together we will do everything to fulfill this potential.”
