Bauhaus Claims Third Podium Finish on Stage 11 of Tour de France
Phil Bauhaus, the German sprinter from Team Bahrain-Victorious, secured his third podium finish in this year’s Tour de France on Stage 11. Bauhaus crossed the line in third place behind stage winner Philipsen from Alpecin-Deceuninck and runner-up Groenewegen from Jayco AlUla.
The stage had a calmer atmosphere compared to the previous day’s chaos, with cooler weather conditions and only three riders in the breakaway. Despite the breakaway group having a gap of 3:30, the sprint teams took control at the front of the peloton and caught them just 14km from the finish.
As the peloton approached the finish in Moulins, rain started to fall, adding a technical challenge for the sprint teams. Bauhaus positioned himself behind the lead out of Groenewegen but couldn’t surpass him. Meanwhile, Philipsen continued to demonstrate his dominance by claiming his fourth stage win of the Tour.
Although he didn’t take the victory, Bauhaus expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “my legs were not the best from the start, but once you focus a bit more and the adrenaline came, I felt a bit better.” He also praised his teammate Freddie for his strong support and strategic positioning during the final kilometer.
With his third-place finish, Bauhaus acknowledged that it was the best result he could achieve on the day, saying, “I didn’t have the legs anymore in the final, so I think third place is more or less the maximum for today.”
The Tour de France 2023 continues to showcase Bauhaus’ excellent form and determination as he pursues further success in the remaining stages of the race.
