Bahrain Victorious Set to Make Their Mark in Germany

# Bahrain Victorious Poised for Success at 2025 Lidl Deutschland Tour

As the cycling world gears up for the 2025 Lidl Deutschland Tour, Bahrain Victorious is set to showcase their prowess across five demanding stages that weave through Germany’s stunning landscapes. The event kicks off with a technical 3 km prologue in Essen, framed by the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, Zeche Zollverein. This opening test will be crucial for determining the early leader’s jersey, with each second holding significant weight.

Following the prologue, Stage 1 extends 203 km to Herford, featuring late climbs in the Teutoburg Forest and Stuckenberg, designed to challenge even the most seasoned cyclists before a fast-paced city-center sprint. The journey continues with Stage 2, which covers 190 km from Herford to Arnsberg, where riders will face early obstacles in the Teutoburg Forest and contend with the steep Sauerland Seufzertal climb as well as a critical final circuit in Neheim.

Describing the intensity of Stage 3, considered the ‘Queen Stage,’ competitors will battle through 175 km of relentless Sauerland and Hesse climbs, faced with an intimidating 3,000 meters of elevation, including the notorious Hirschberger Wand’s 20% gradient. The outcome of the tour could hinge on this challenging stage.

The concluding 163 km stage from Halle to Magdeburg promises further excitement, featuring an early 18% ascent that may test sprinters’ resilience before the speed merchants take over for a thrilling finish along Magdeburg’s Schleinufer.

Bahrain Victorious has assembled a robust squad for the race, including Nikias Arndt, Phil Bauhaus, Alberto Bruttomesso, Žak Eržen, Vlad Van Mechelen, and Edoardo Zambanini. The team is set to support Bauhaus and Eržen in sprints, capitalizing on fast finishes anticipated in Herford and Magdeburg. Arndt and Bruttomesso will not only enhance the sprint train but also provide much-needed strength during hill climbs, while Zambanini and Van Mechelen focus on general classification ambitions.

Gorazd Štangelj, lead Sports Director, expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, stating, “The Deutschland Tour opens with a short 3 km prologue. There’s little strategy there, every rider must deliver their best effort, and it will immediately give us a picture of where we stand.” He continued, outlining plans for each stage:
“Stage 1 is the longest of the race and should end in a bunch sprint, where Phil Bauhaus will be our leader… For Stage 2, we’ll reassess; if Phil has the legs, we stay with him, but we can also give Žak Eržen an opportunity as both are sprinters.”

Štangelj advanced the strategy for the general classification, noting, “We expect the race to be too demanding for Phil or Žak, so Edoardo Zambanini and Vlad Van Mechelen will take on the ‘GC leader’ role.” He emphasized the importance of each stage, stating, “Each day features key climbs and intermediate sprints that will be decisive for bonus seconds. Our clear goals are to win a stage and place a rider inside the GC top 10.”

With formidable competitors like Wout Van Aert, Jonathan Milan, Jasper Philipsen, Alexander Kristoff, and Biniam Girmay poised to battle for victory, Bahrain Victorious is readying for a thrilling week ahead. As Štangelj concluded, “Every second will matter in this race… Phil and Žak will spearhead the sprints, Edoardo and Vlad will focus on GC, and we are confident in a strong all-around performance.” Expect excitement and fierce competition as Bahrain Victorious aims to leave a lasting mark on the 2025 Lidl Deutschland Tour.
