Bahrain Victorious Bring Strong Line-up to Renewi Tour
Team Bahrain Victorious is heading to Belgium and The Netherlands for the 18th Renewi Tour with a strong line-up after their recent successes. The race, which takes place over five days, is known for favoring fast men and classics specialists.
Leading the team is Matej Mohorič, the 2018 winner of the race, who will be looking to continue his good form after recent stage victories at the Tour of Slovenia and the Tour de France, as well as his overall victory at the Tour of Poland. Mohorič will be supported by the newly-crowned British champion, Fred Wright, who will also have the opportunity to ride for his own chances. 22-year-old Nicolò Buratti will provide additional support to the team.
According to Lead Sports Director Roman Kreuziger, the race is expected to be hard-fought from the start, with the first stage being particularly nervous due to narrow roads and potential windy conditions. Stage 3, which features a cobbled circuit, and the time trial on the second day are expected to be crucial for the general classification.
The opening and fourth stages are expected to end in bunch sprints, with Jonathan Milan, who won a stage at this year’s Giro d’Italia, leading out for Bahrain Victorious. The team will also focus on building a strong GC position with Mohorič and Wright during the time trial on the second day. Kreuziger also mentioned the importance of familiarizing Buratti with the Belgian roads for future races.
The race ends with a lumpy stage on Sunday, which includes challenging climbs. The team aims to be on the podium with either Mohorič or Wright and also target stage victories.
The Renewi Tour starts on Wednesday 23rd August in Blankenberge and concludes on Sunday 27th in Bilzen.
