Bahrain Victorious Aims for Podium at Vuelta a Burgos

The Bahrain Victorious team is set to compete in the upcoming Vuelta a Burgos, with Santiago Buitrago leading the lineup. Buitrago, who clinched victory in the opening stage of the race last year, will be looking to secure a podium finish and potentially another stage win after his impressive performance at the Giro d’Italia in May.

Joining Buitrago is the experienced Damiano Caruso, who is aiming to get into top form ahead of the final Grand Tour of the season, while also seeking opportunities to claim a stage win. The team will also rely on the support of Kamil Gradek, Rainer Kepplinger, Jasha Sütterlin, Edoardo Zambanini, and Hermann Pernsteiner to assist Buitrago in his quest for success.

The Vuelta a Burgos, a five-stage race taking place from August 15th to August 19th, is a crucial event for Bahrain Victorious as they prepare for the Vuelta España. The team sees the Team Time Trial (TTT) on stage 2 as an opportunity to fine-tune their technical approach, which will be vital for the TTT that opens the final Grand Tour in Barcelona on August 26th.

Neil Stephens, Team Bahrain Victorious’ Sports Director, highlighted the significance of the Vuelta a Burgos in the team’s season preparations. He stated, “We’re heading to Burgos with a clear goal: preparing for the Vuelta España. Buitrago, last year’s stage 1 winner and a consistent performer in Burgos, leads us as we aim for the podium. Caruso, a dependable support, will fine-tune for the Vuelta España while playing a key role as road captain. With two stage wins last year, we’re set on replicating that success. This race is important to us and as preparations for the Vuelta España. The TTT on Stage 2 here has a different dynamic to the one at Vuelta España, but with half our Vuelta team in Burgos, it’s a chance to refine our technical approach, preparing us for a strong start in Barcelona.”
