Australian Duo Baker and Manly Secure Contract Extensions with Team Jayco AlUla until 2024
Australian cyclists Georgia Baker and Alex Manly have both agreed to extend their contracts with Team Jayco AlUla, ensuring their tenure with the team until the end of 2024. Baker and Manly, who previously raced with the Australian squad before focusing on track cycling and the Tokyo Olympics, made their return to the road in 2022. Since then, both riders have showcased their talents with impressive results.
Manly’s road performances include a stage win at the Tour Down Under earlier this season and four stage wins, as well as the overall victory at the Thüringen Ladies Tour in 2022. Baker, on the other hand, claimed an impressive stage victory at the Thüringen Ladies Tour and achieved podium finishes at the women’s Giro d’Italia and Tour de Suisse in 2022.
The duo also won a silver medal together in the Madison event at the World Championships and are now focusing on the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. The re-signing of Baker and Manly is a crucial part of Team Jayco AlUla’s strategy to develop Australian riders and strengthen their women’s team roster for 2024.
Brent Copeland, the General Manager of Team Jayco AlUla, expressed his confidence in the duo, stating, “We look forward to continuing our journey together, we are confident we will see big things from both Georgia and Alex in 2024 and it is motivating to see our women’s team really come together and strengthen for 2024.”
Both Baker and Manly expressed their excitement about their contract extensions. Manly, who took a two-year break from the road before returning to Team Jayco AlUla, described her return as “coming back home.” She credited the team’s support and the commitment of the riders for her success in the past two seasons. Baker, on the other hand, expressed her happiness about extending her contract and her optimism for the future of the team, especially after the merger with Liv, which she sees as a significant step forward for women’s cycling.
With their impressive performances and the renewed commitments of Baker and Manly, Team Jayco AlUla is poised for continued success in the upcoming seasons.
