Aurélien Paret-Peintre Claims Victory in Stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia as Paul Lapeira Retires Due to Illness
Paul Lapeira’s unfortunate illness forced him to retire during the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia.
“Paul Lapeira has been suffering from a flu-like syndrome since the third stage of the Giro d’Italia, which forced him to retire in the early kilometers of the fourth stage. He will take a rest period on his return to France, before resuming training,” says Dr. Cyril Barthomeuf, AG2R CITROËN team doctor.
The 22-year-old rider, who was competing in his first Grand Tour, had a promising start. After making a daring escape in stage 2, the talented cyclist from Normandy secured the best climber’s jersey, which he proudly wore for one day.
Meanwhile, in a thrilling turn of events, Aurélien Paret-Peintre emerged as the winner of stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia.
