Attacking Jorgenson climbs to third in Tirreno-Adriatico overall standings

# Matteo Jorgenson Climbs to Third in Tirreno-Adriatico Overall Standings

In a thrilling stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, Matteo Jorgenson showcased his climbing prowess, moving up to third place in the overall standings following an intense day marked by nearly 4,000 meters of elevation gain. The stage was characterized by relentless attacks from several riders, with eight participants initially breaking away and building a significant lead.

The decisive moment came during the second ascent of the Santuario Beato Sante, where the breakaway was gradually reined in. Ultimately, Michael Valgren of EF Education – EasyPost emerged victorious, securing the stage win in Mombaroccio, while Jorgenson and teammate Isaac Del Toro worked strategically to secure their positions in the general classification.

“A really great result, which gives me confidence for tomorrow,” Jorgenson commented after the stage.

The day began with UAE Team Emirates – XRG launching an aggressive strategy, positioning Jorgenson effectively near the front of the peloton. As the race neared the finale, Jorgenson and Del Toro made their own push, coming within eleven seconds of Valgren, ensuring they gained crucial seconds in their fight for overall glory. Del Toro claimed the blue jersey for the stage, while Jorgenson continued to build momentum.

“This is a really great result for today. I’m extremely happy with it,” Jorgenson said, highlighting the teamwork that kept him in contention. He recounted how his teammates enabled him to conserve energy, adding, “In the end, that helped me gain time and move up in the general classification. Near the finish, I tried to get away from Del Toro, but I couldn’t make it stick.”

Looking ahead, Jorgenson is aware that another challenging mountain stage awaits in the ongoing Tirreno-Adriatico, with a flatter finale scheduled for Sunday. “Tomorrow brings another final opportunity. I’ll once again aim for the best possible result. Today’s stage definitely gives me a lot of confidence,” he concluded.
