Astana Qazaqstan Team has announced the reinstatement of cyclist Miguel Angel Lopez after he was suspended pending clarification of his status in connection with an investigation on Dr. Maynar. The team made the decision to reintegrate Lopez based on the absence of any findings by the Spanish authorities or the UCI.
In a statement, Astana Qazaqstan Team said, “Miguel Angel Lopez is thus provisionally reintegrated as part of Astana Qazaqstan Team and will return to the previously agreed racing plan (Vuelta a Burgos and then Vuelta a España).”
The team has also forwarded all the information received to the International Testing Agency, which is responsible for anti-doping investigations on behalf of the UCI. They will closely monitor the situation and take resolute measures depending on any developments.
The decision to reinstate Lopez comes after his questioning by Spanish Police, and the team’s subsequent suspension, back in July. With no further updates or evidence indicating any wrongdoing, the team felt it was appropriate to allow Lopez to continue his racing activities.
