Arvid de Kleijn Emerges Victorious in Opening Stage of PETRONAS LE Tour de Langkawi 2023
Arvid de Kleijn of Tudor Pro Cycling Team claimed victory in a closely contested bunch sprint to secure the opening stage of the PETRONAS LE Tour de Langkawi 2023. The Dutch cyclist, known as “Little Gorilla,” outpaced his rivals and seized the overall race leader position.
De Kleijn’s impressive win earned him the coveted PETRONAS Green Jersey and the KBS Orange Jersey as the leader in the sprints classification. Reflecting on his success, De Kleijn expressed his delight, saying, “Scrambling towards the finishing line, at one point, I thought I’d lose out…I’m happy to beat him.”
In a promising start for the Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team, Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff claimed the TOURISM MALAYSIA Polka Dot Jersey as the leader of the mountains classification. After winning the first King of the Mountains (KOM) climb, Nur Aiman holds high hopes of clinching his third consecutive LTdL KOM jersey.
The next stage, from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu, promises another thrilling race with challenging terrain and a fast sprint finish. With a total race distance of 1,278.1km, the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2023 is set to captivate cycling enthusiasts with its “Beat The Heat” theme.
With riders from 22 teams representing 34 different nationalities, this year’s edition of the race is poised to deliver exhilarating competition throughout its duration.
