Arnaud De Lie Claims Impressive Victory at Heistse Pijl
Arnaud De Lie, a rider for Lotto Soudal, secured a dominant victory at the Heistse Pijl race, beating top sprinters Giacomo Nizzolo and Mark Cavendish in a chaotic sprint finish. This win marks De Lie’s fifth victory of the season and contributes to his team’s tally of 18 wins.
The decisive point of the race was a short, sharp cobbled climb just one kilometer from the finish. De Lie tactically positioned himself on the final ascent and skillfully responded to attacks, ultimately putting himself in an excellent position for the final sprint. Nizzolo initiated the sprint, but it was De Lie who displayed a powerful acceleration, passing the Italian and clinching the win. With Nizzolo finishing in second place and Cavendish in third, De Lie stood on the podium alongside two renowned sprinters.
Reflecting on his victory, De Lie expressed his elation, stating, “This is just incredible and feels like a new step in my career. The team executed the plan perfectly, and I was able to position myself well on the final climb. I followed the attacks and took responsibility to maintain the pace until the finish. When Nizzolo launched his sprint, I was able to surpass him and secure the win.”
“Following the GP Marcel Kint last Sunday, it’s great to have the Heistse Pijl on my palmares. Every race is important to me, and I always start with the ambition to win. Winning a race is never easy, which is why I am extremely happy to add Heistse Pijl to my list of victories. Sharing the podium with world-class sprinters like Nizzolo and Cavendish is truly incredible,” added De Lie.
