Arensman and Thomas show determination on grueling summit finish at Vuelta a Espana
Thymen Arensman and Geraint Thomas displayed their tenacity as they tackled the first summit finish of the Vuelta a Espana in Andorra. Despite facing a challenging terrain, Arensman fought hard to secure a strong position, crossing the line just 21 seconds behind the lead group. His remarkable effort propelled him to 14th place in the general classification. Meanwhile, Thomas demonstrated resilience by minimizing his time loss, finishing 47 seconds behind the stage winner alongside his teammate Egan Bernal.
In a show of teamwork, Bernal played a crucial role in the finale, assisting Arensman in bridging the gap to the leaders after an initial surge on the grueling summit. Bernal then focused on supporting Thomas, who currently stands at 21st place overall with a time of 1:11.
Jonathan Castroviejo also demonstrated his strength, pacing the team at the forefront during the final pair of climbs as the battle for the general classification intensified.
In a thrilling finish, Remco Evenepoel emerged as the stage winner, edging out Jonas Vingegaard and Juan Ayuso by a single second.
