Anton Kuzmin, a professional cyclist from Kazakhstan, has signed a one-year contract with the Astana Qazaqstan Team for the 2024 season. This move comes after Kuzmin spent two seasons in the UCI Pro Continental team, gaining valuable experience in major professional races [such as Il Lombardia, Milano-Torino, Vuelta a Andalucia, Vuelta a Murcia, Tour of the Alps, and others].
“I have been cheering for Astana team since childhood, I have always followed the races in which the team took part, rejoiced at the successes of the leaders of Astana. The great history of the project has always been a great motivation for me, gave me strength on the way to the heights of cycling. I aspired to be a part of the team, to get onto the WorldTour. Now the dream is coming true, but I know that there is a huge amount of work to be done to prepare for my first season in the WorldTour, to become a true professional and prove myself from the best side. I am ready to work hard to achieve my goals and to help the team to achieve success” – said Anton Kuzmin.
In 2023, Kuzmin achieved impressive results, winning a stage of the Tour of Thailand and the Tour of Kandovan. He also finished third in the General Classification of the Tour of Iran, fourth in the Tour of Istanbul, and fifth in the Tour of Sharjah.
According to Alexandr Vinokurov, the General Manager of Astana Qazaqstan Team, two more Kazakh riders will join the team in the upcoming season [Daniil Marukhin and Anton Kuzmin]. Vinokurov expressed confidence in the potential and motivation of Kuzmin, stating, “There is a lot of work ahead, but it seems to me that the guys are ready to work.”
With Kuzmin’s addition to the team, Astana Qazaqstan Team is preparing for a successful season in the WorldTour.
