Another Mohorič Masterclass at Tour de Pologne Earns Him Stage Victory
Matej Mohorič, the Slovenian cyclist, showcased his exceptional skills once again at the Tour de Pologne, securing a thrilling victory on a challenging summit finish. This win comes just nine days after his remarkable triumph at the Tour de France.
Speaking about his performance, Mohorič expressed his satisfaction and attributed his success to his exceptional form and preparation: “Today I had incredible legs. Since the Tour actually, I have been feeling crazy good in training, and I was really looking forward to racing here without any pressure.”
The stage included several demanding climbs, including the final ascent of 6.9km at 5.2%, with the last 1.5km at a challenging 9.5% gradient. Mohorič praised his teammates for their exceptional teamwork and strategizing, stating, “The guys did incredible work today. I think this was the best team performance since I became a part of the team, so I really, really want to thank the guys today.”
During the climax of the stage, it was Rafal Majka who made the first attack, much to the delight of the Polish fans. However, Mohorič timed his move perfectly and bridged the gap to Majka and Lennert Van Eetvelt. With an impressive sprint, Mohorič sealed his third win in six weeks, securing his second victory in Poland and the 20th of his career.
Reflecting on the intense final moments of the race, Mohorič admitted to feeling nervous but determined to give his best until the finish line: “I was almost nervous in the final because it’s not usual for me to have good legs like this. But I knew I wanted to do my best and give everything all the way to the line. I thought someone would get across to me, but this time they didn’t, so I’m happy and proud.”
Not only did Mohorič claim the stage win, but he also took the points jersey and secured the overall lead on the General Classification, leading João Almeida by four seconds and Michal Kwiatkowski by ten seconds. This victory solidifies Mohorič’s reputation as one of the most formidable cyclists in the World Tour.
The Tour de Pologne continues to showcase the exceptional talents and thrilling performances of elite cyclists, with Matej Mohorič continuing to assert his dominance on both the Polish roads and the international cycling scene.
