Andreas Kron Reflects on a Remarkable First Year at Lotto Soudal

After a successful debut season with Lotto Soudal, Danish cyclist Andreas Kron looks back on his achievements and shares his goals for the future. With stage victories at the Volta a Catalunya and the Tour de Suisse, Kron’s first year in the WorldTour exceeded his expectations.

“Of course, I am really happy and proud about my 2021 season and how I performed in my first year at WorldTour level. With two stage wins under my belt, one at the Volta a Catalunya and one at the Tour de Suisse, it has truly been an incredible season,” says Andreas Kron.

Despite his successes, Kron faced setbacks when he was forced to abandon the Volta a Catalunya due to illness, causing him to miss the Ardennes Classics, one of his major goals for the year. However, he turned this disappointment into motivation and went on to win stage six of the Tour de Suisse.

“Missing the Ardennes Classics was of course a major disappointment. It really was a pity as this changed the course of my season. But on the positive side, it gave me the chance to focus on other races,” Kron explains.

Reflecting on his experience racing at the highest level, Kron acknowledges the challenges of the WorldTour. “Sometimes, people think that finishing inside the gruppetto is easy, but I can assure you on some days that’s really not the case! If you have bad legs on the WorldTour, it’s one big sufferfest,” he admits.

Kron also expresses his appreciation for the supportive atmosphere within Lotto Soudal and the opportunity to learn from experienced riders like Tim Wellens and Philippe Gilbert. Looking ahead to the next season, Kron’s main goal is to be in top shape for the Ardennes Classics and hopes to eventually win Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

With an outstanding first year behind him, Andreas Kron is eager to continue making his mark in the WorldTour and gaining valuable experience in the races to come.
