Andrea Bagioli Takes Second Place in Incredible Il Lombardia Performance

The Italian rider, Andrea Bagioli, delivered an impressive performance at Il Lombardia, securing Soudal Quick-Step’s 49th podium in a Monument. Bagioli’s outstanding week included a third-place finish in Coppa Bernocchi and a stunning victory in Gran Piemonte before his remarkable second-place finish in Lombardia.

Bagioli navigated the race flawlessly, maintaining his position among the leaders as the peloton fractured on the challenging Passo di Ganda. In the technical descent, it was Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates who made the decisive move, eventually winning the race. However, Bagioli showcased his resilience and skill, joining a chasing group that featured renowned riders. In the reduced sprint, the young Italian exhibited impressive speed, surging from fourth position to secure second place.

Reflecting on his achievement, Bagioli expressed his astonishment, stating, “My first podium in a Monument, behind Pogacar, but in front of other amazing riders – this is something I can’t believe… I’m sad that I am leaving and I want to thank the Wolfpack for these unforgettable four years!”

Despite crashing early on, Soudal Quick-Step’s Remco Evenepoel also displayed his determination and resilience, finishing in ninth place. “I felt good, but towards the end of the race, I began feeling the consequences of the crash more and more… In the end, second and ninth for the team today isn’t too bad,” Evenepoel remarked.

The impressive performances of Bagioli and Evenepoel solidified Soudal Quick-Step’s position on the podium of the UCI Team Classification, rounding out an eventful and successful season.

Next Sunday, Evenepoel will compete in the Chrono des Nations before enjoying a well-deserved vacation, bringing an end to an intense and impactful season.
