Israel Premier Tech Renews Contracts with Key Riders: Boivin, Van Asbroeck, Würtz Schmidt, and Zabel

Israel Premier Tech (IPT) has announced contract renewals with four core riders. Guillaume Boivin has signed on for the 2023 season, while Mads Würtz Schmidt, Tom Van Asbroeck, and Rick Zabel will stay with the team for another two years. IPT General Manager Kjell Carlström expressed his satisfaction with the decision to retain these experienced riders who have proven themselves to be strong teammates and capable of individual success. Carlström said, “They have contributed to key moments in the team’s history and we are looking forward to seeing them continue with IPT.”

Among the riders, Van Asbroeck and Boivin had standout performances at the 2021 Paris-Roubaix, finishing in eighth and ninth place, respectively. Würtz Schmidt had a breakthrough year in 2021, winning the Danish road race championships and claiming his first WorldTour win at Tirreno-Adriatico. Zabel, on the other hand, has been consistent as IPT’s top sprint lead-out rider and even wore the first KOM jersey at the Giro d’Italia this year.

Boivin expressed his happiness about staying with IPT, saying, “I am super happy to come back with Israel – Premier Tech for another year. I have been on the team since 2016 so this really feels like home and it never crossed my mind to go anywhere else.” Van Asbroeck also expressed his excitement about re-signing, stating, “This team felt like a family already from the first year I joined, so this made my choice even easier. What is great will eventually shine!

Würtz Schmidt, reflecting on his time with IPT, commented, “For me personally, it has been a great team and I am happy to be in this environment. The team approached me really early about staying which I was very happy with, especially as this year has been a really difficult year for me on many levels.” Zabel shared a similar sentiment, saying, “It is a team where I feel at home and have made a lot of good friends over the last years so it was a natural decision to stay.

The four riders join Daryl Impey and Simon Clarke, who have also re-signed with IPT for the 2023 season. With a strong core of experienced riders, IPT looks to build on their past successes and compete in the biggest races against the best teams in the world.
