Alexey Lutsenko Claims Victory in Memorial Marco Pantani Race
Kazakhstan’s Alexey Lutsenko emerged as the winner in the Italian one-day race, Memorial Marco Pantani (193.3 km), after outsprinting Marc Hirschi and Pavel Sivakov in Cesenatico. This marks Lutsenko’s second victory in the event, having previously won in 2019.
Throughout the race, Lutsenko’s Astana Qazaqstan Team made a concerted effort to chase down breakaway groups and maintain control. Lutsenko expressed his gratitude to his teammates for their support, stating, “We did it in a right way as a team and I am really proud of my teammates.”
During the final laps, a group of six riders, including Lutsenko, broke away and maintained a solid lead. On the steepest part of the course, Hirschi attacked, with Lutsenko and Sivakov closely following. The trio worked hard to stay ahead and crossed the finish line together in Cesenatico.
This victory adds to Lutsenko’s successful 2023 season, which includes wins at the Tour of Sicily, Kazakhstan National Championships, and the Circuit de Getxo. Lutsenko expressed his happiness with the win and highlighted its significance, saying, “I am really happy to win today, and it is so nice to get this win on the birthday of Alexandr Vinokurov, our General Manager.”
