Alexandr Vinokurov, the current Sports Team Principal for Astana-Premier Tech, will be stepping down from his role according to an announcement from the team’s Board of Directors. While Vinokurov will remain a part of the team, he will no longer be responsible for the team’s management.
Giuseppe Martinelli and Steve Bauer will take over the role of Sports Team Principal for the foreseeable future, working alongside Managing Director Yana Seel to oversee the team’s day-to-day sporting operations. Seel expressed her confidence in the new leadership, stating:
“We can confirm that Alexandr Vinokurov will not be present at the Tour de France this year as he will step down as Sports Team Principal. Alexandr still remains part of the team but he will not be in charge of the team’s sporting operations at the moment and will move into another role. I hope that during this period Giuseppe Martinelli and Steve Bauer will work well together to lead the team from a performance standpoint and guide our riders to success, starting here at the Tour de France where Steve will work alongside Dmitry Fofonov and Stefano Zanini,” said Yana Seel, Astana – Premier Tech Managing Director.
While the reason for Vinokurov’s departure was not disclosed, it marks a significant change in leadership for the team. Astana-Premier Tech will now rely on Martinelli and Bauer to guide the team’s performance and ensure success for their riders. The transition will take effect immediately, with Vinokurov no longer being involved in the team’s sporting operations.
