Alexandr Vinokurov Makes History as UCI Gran Fondo World Champion
Alexandr Vinokurov, the General Manager of Astana Qazaqstan Team and Olympic Champion in London-2012, has achieved another feat by winning the gold medal in the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Scotland. Competing in the 50-54 age category, Vinokurov completed the 159 km race in 4 hours, 5 minutes, and 22 seconds, securing the title of World Champion.
Vinokurov’s victory came down to a thrilling final sprint. “In the final sprint from a 3-man break, Alexandr Vinokurov outsprinted the Spaniard Raul Patiño and the Polish rider Adrian Jach,” the report highlights. A total of 213 riders finished the race in the same age category.
Following this achievement, Vinokurov will represent Kazakhstan in the individual time trial race on August 7th. He has previously excelled in this discipline, winning it at the 2023 Asian Cycling Championships in the 50-54 age category.
