Gleb Syritsa and Simon Carr Shine in PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2023
Gleb Syritsa of Astana Qazaqstan Cycling clinched his second stage win in the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2023, while Simon Carr of EF Education-EasyPost became the first British rider to win the overall crown in the race’s 27-year history.
Syritsa’s victory in the final stage marked his third career win in Le Tour de Langkawi. The race concluded with a tightly contested sprint finish, with Syritsa edging out Caja Rural’s Daniel Babor in a close race to the finish line in front of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
Carr, who had held the PETRONAS Green Overall Winner Jersey since Stage 5, secured his position as the best overall rider in the race. The 25-year-old rider praised his team for their support throughout the challenging race and expressed his excitement about the milestone achievement.
In addition to Syritsa and Carr’s successes, Simon Pellaud of Tudor Pro Cycling claimed the TOURISM MALAYSIA Red Polka Dot Jersey for King of Mountains, while Arvid de Kleijn of Tudor Pro Cycling took home the KBS ORANGE Sprinters Jersey. Vadim Pronskiy of Astana Qazaqstan Team earned the BEAUTIFUL TERENGGANU White Jersey as the Best Asian rider.
The race also saw strong performances from Malaysian riders, with Muhammad Nur Aiman Aiman Rosli, Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff, and Muhammad Shaiful Adlan placing in the top 10 in the Asian classification.
The 27th edition of PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi commenced on September 23 and concluded with 109 finishers. The prize-giving ceremony was attended by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim, and PETRONAS Senior General Manager, Group Strategic Communications, Datin Anita Azrina Abd Aziz.
Overall, the race showcased thrilling competition and memorable moments, providing a platform for both local and international cyclists to showcase their skills and determination.
