Oudeman finishes tenth in the Vuelta a Burgos after a strong performance in the final stage

# Oudeman Secures Tenth Place in Vuelta a Burgos Finale

In a thrilling conclusion to the Vuelta a Burgos, Maud Oudeman of Team Visma | Lease a Bike finished a commendable tenth in the general classification, following a determined performance in the race’s final stage. The stage featured three categorized climbs, culminating in a challenging ascent to Lagunas de Neila, setting the stage for an electrifying finish.

As the race unfolded, two riders broke away early, creating a significant gap of nearly seven minutes. Just over 20 kilometers from the finish, Rosita Reijnhout made her move by sprinting ahead with Titia Ryo in pursuit of the leaders. The ambitious duo managed to catch one of the breakout riders before ultimately being reeled in by the peloton as they neared the finish line.

On the steep slopes of Lagunas de Neila, the top contenders in the general classification made their presence known. Oudeman and her teammate Katharina Sadnik fought valiantly to maintain their positions among the elite pack. However, as Evita Muzic and Yara Kastelijn escalated the pace, both Oudeman and Sadnik found it challenging to keep up.

Jan Boven, the sports director for Team Visma | Lease a Bike, praised Oudeman’s effort, stating, “Maud can look back on a very good Vuelta a Burgos.” Although Oudeman narrowly missed out on winning the white jersey for the best young rider, Boven emphasized the positive aspects of her performance: “For Maud personally, it’s a shame she just missed out… but all in all she can look back on a very good Vuelta a Burgos.”

Boven acknowledged the potential displayed by the younger riders on the team, remarking, “In the absence of our leading riders, these are fantastic opportunities. Maud has shown here that she can be a good cyclist even in a slightly different role.” He also commended the efforts of Reijnhout and Sadnik, stating, “The girls rode a great final.”

After four days of intense competition in northern Spain, Boven expressed satisfaction with Team Visma | Lease a Bike’s overall performance, highlighting their four top-ten finishes. “I’m left with a positive feeling about this week. With a great young group, we tried to get the most out of it, and when you ultimately achieve four top-ten finishes, I think we can certainly be satisfied,” Boven added.

The final results of Stage 4 showcased the prowess of the leading riders, with Yara Kastelijn securing the win, followed by Évita Muzic and Usoa Ostolaza. Oudeman’s twelfth-place finish in the stage secured her tenth spot overall, solidifying her role as a competitor to watch in future races.
