No breakthrough result on the Tour de Bretagne

# Lackluster Finale for Groupama-FDJ United at Tour de Bretagne

The final stages of the **Tour de Bretagne** proved challenging for Groupama-FDJ United’s La Conti team, which managed to finish the race with only four riders after five days of grueling competition. Despite efforts to make an impact, the team fell short of securing any major victories, with Reef Roberts taking fifth place on the concluding day and Eliott Boulet rounding out the overall standings in 10th.

The week started on a hopeful note for Jérôme Gannat’s team, as Blake Agnoletto achieved a commendable podium finish early on. However, from stage four onward, the team struggled to maintain momentum. “In a climb before the finishing circuit, the peloton split, around forty riders got away, but there was never any real organization, which somewhat benefited the break,” Gannat observed. While Boulet and Esteban Foucher remained competitive, the team couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities.

Despite being in sixth place prior to stage five, the team faced a setback amidst challenging conditions. On the iconic climb of **Mûr-de-Bretagne**, another strong group formed, with Esteban making a valiant attempt to break away. Nevertheless, his effort was thwarted, and Eliott’s performance lagged behind his usual standards, leading to a disappointing 15th place finish that pushed him down in the overall rankings.

Heading into the penultimate stage, which culminated in a near-sprint finish, Gannat had a clear strategy: “We wanted to race aggressively, because there could still be moves on the demanding Dinan circuit.” Roberts made a bold move, escaping with two other riders and maintaining a significant lead until the closing stages. Ultimately, he secured a respectable fifth place but lamented falling short of a podium finish due to exhaustion.

Eliott Boulet crossed the finish line shortly after in 15th place, struggling to recover from the demands of the final laps. “He tried to follow the counterattack that caught Reef, but he had already made a big effort the lap before,” Gannat explained, emphasizing the toll the long week took on his riders.

Reflecting on the overall experience, Gannat expressed mixed feelings. “It could have ended very nicely today with a possible stage win and Eliott moving up in the overall standings,” he said. Ultimately, they faced disappointment but also recognized the value of racing against strong competition. “We were there, but not at the very front,” he concluded, highlighting the challenges of losing key riders to injuries.

As the team wraps up this year’s Tour de Bretagne, they conclude with valuable lessons and the experience of racing at high speeds against elite competition, even as they nurse the frustration of unfulfilled potential.
