Team Visma | Lease a Bike heads to Middelkerke-Wevelgem with confidence
# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Gears Up for 88th Middelkerke-Wevelgem with High Hopes
As the renowned Flemish spring classic, Middelkerke-Wevelgem, prepares for its 88th edition, Team Visma | Lease a Bike is entering the race with a strong sense of confidence. Known for its challenging 240-kilometer route featuring eight steep climbs, this year’s event promises to be as thrilling as ever. The team has previously dominated the race, clinching victory in two of the last five editions. Once again, former champions Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte will be taking to the starting line, adding valuable experience to the roster.
The race kicks off with a flat segment, but it is often in De Moeren, known for its open wind-swept landscape, where pivotal moments unfold. Following this initial stretch, the peloton will navigate a series of steep climbs that can significantly alter race dynamics, with the crucial double ascent of the Kemmelberg frequently deciding the outcome.
Sports director Maarten Wynants expressed his optimism regarding the team’s capabilities, stating, “We have a strong team with riders who can compete for the win. With Wout and Christophe, we have two former winners at the start who can rely on their experience. We also have a strong asset in Matthew Brennan if it comes down to a sprint. We can play out multiple scenarios, and that gives us confidence. Middelkerke-Wevelgem is an unpredictable race, and that makes it even more exciting. We are motivated to fight for the victory.”
As the team prepares for the challenges ahead, the anticipation builds not only for their riders but for cycling fans eager to see who will emerge victorious in this classic race.
