Eliott Boulet triumphs after a wild day

# Eliott Boulet Seizes Victory at Youngster Coast Challenge

In an exhilarating display of teamwork and resilience, Eliott Boulet triumphed at the Youngster Coast Challenge on Friday, marking a significant return for “La Conti” after a four-year hiatus. Boulet’s victory comes after nearly 140 kilometres of breakaway racing, where he was joined by his teammate Victor Loulergue in a bold escape that solidified their dominance in the U23 cycling circuit.

The race, which unfolded along the Bredene–Koksijde route, saw the riders tackle a 175-kilometre course that included three climbs, notably the challenging Kemmelberg located 100 kilometres from the finish line. “It was mostly a tail-crosswind heading towards the Kemmel, with a few crosswind sections,” explained Jérôme Gannat, the team’s director. “It wasn’t very strong, but on exposed terrain you had to stay alert, and the whole team was well positioned from the very first kilometres.”

**Strategic Breakaway and Strong Teamwork**

From the outset, La Conti showcased their strategic prowess by positioning two riders, Boulet and Loulergue, in a breakaway that initially fluctuated in its lead but ultimately proved effective. “Victor set a strong pace on the Kemmelberg, three riders were dropped from the break, but the peloton came back to within ten seconds,” Gannat recounted. “We thought it was over, but three riders bridged across and their team then stopped chasing behind.”

Despite the constant pressure from the peloton, the breakaway group maintained cohesion and strength. Gannat commented, “They worked well together to go as far as possible without really looking at each other. Victor was a bit the organizer of the break.” With the stakes high and uncertainty looming, the team’s strategy was clear: “For us, it was pretty much all or nothing.”

**Boulet’s Moment of Glory**

As the race approached its final laps, tensions rose but momentum remained in favour of the breakaway. With 20 kilometres to go, the leaders held a 30-second advantage, which varied before settling at a crucial 25 seconds as they approached the finish line. The breakaway riders pushed through the last few kilometres with a shared goal until the final attacks began. “One rider attacked in the final kilometre and Victor made an effort to close the gap,” Gannat explained.

Boulet, the 19-year-old sensation from Brittany, seized the opportunity with a powerful sprint, launching himself at 250 metres out. Comfortable in his lead, he crossed the finish line victorious, cementing his place as a rising star in cycling. “It really wasn’t the expected scenario, but it’s a very nice win,” Gannat reflected on the unexpected outcome.

The event served not only as a platform for Boulet’s triumph but also underlined the importance of teamwork, with La Conti executing their strategy flawlessly throughout the race. However, the day was not without its challenges, as team member Johan Blanc suffered a crash that will require further evaluation.

Ultimately, Boulet’s victory at the Youngster Coast Challenge is more than just a win; it signifies a promising future for both him and the Groupama-FDJ United development team. As they prepare for more competition ahead, Boulet’s performance stands as a testament to determination, strategy, and the spirit of cycling.
