Third place for Jorgenson in tough sixth stage of Tirreno-Adriatico

# Jorgenson Secures Third Place in Challenging Sixth Stage of Tirreno-Adriatico

In the grueling sixth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, Matteo Jorgenson of Team Visma | Lease a Bike showcased his strength by clinching a respectable third place. The Dutch team aggressively positioned itself at the front from the onset, with Timo Kielich contributing significantly to their strategy as part of a breakaway group.

Despite the challenges posed by the demanding terrain, Kielich remained a crucial asset in the thinned-out peloton after the breakaway lost its chances of success. The penultimate climb saw Tim Rex and Wout van Aert take the lead, further diminishing the group of favorites.

On the final punishing ascent, Jorgenson proved his mettle by keeping pace with top riders. As the race approached its climax, he launched a bold attack in the last kilometer but ultimately finished third, just three seconds behind the leaders.

Reflecting on his performance, Jorgenson stated, “I’m grateful for the team’s support and happy to finish on the podium.” He added, “It went pretty well today. We started the day with the ambition of aiming for the overall classification. I thought it was smartest to attack on the final climb, especially with the strong headwind in the last ten kilometers. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the legs I had yesterday, but Isaac was simply the strongest.”

Wout van Aert also shared his positive sentiments regarding the stage, noting, “I felt good today. The goal was to isolate Del Toro and eventually try for the overall win. The final climb turned out to be too tough, turning it into a real man-to-man battle. I tried to gain a gap to support Matteo in the last kilometer, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out.”

Team coach Jesper Mørkøv echoed the team’s commendable efforts, commenting, “We rode very well as a team today. We were well-positioned throughout the day, and with Timo in the early break, we had an extra card to play later in the race. On the final short climbs, we made the race hard, but ultimately it came down to a battle among the favorites on the last climb. Matteo was very strong, but Del Toro proved even stronger.”

The results highlight the fierce competition, with Isaac del Toro from UAE Team Emirates taking the stage victory, followed closely by Tobias Halland Johannessen of Uno-X Mobility. Jorgenson’s solid performance has kept him in the hunt for the overall classification, as he currently ranks third overall, just 43 seconds behind the leader.
