Another strong result for Victor Loulergue

# Victor Loulergue Shines Again in Tour de la Provence Finale

Victor Loulergue continued his impressive start to the season this Sunday, making a remarkable impact during the final stage of the Tour de la Provence. Competing towards Arles, Loulergue was part of a breakaway that ultimately bested the peloton, showcasing his determination and skill. Although he fell short of matching Axel Laurance in the closing sprint, the 21-year-old secured a commendable fourth place at the finish line.

This grueling stage spanned over 200 kilometers and began in Rognac, featuring a particularly challenging first hour for the riders. Frédéric Guesdon, the team’s coach, remarked on the importance of staying vigilant early on. “Victor felt the most capable and motivated to go in the break, and he didn’t miss a single move at the start! There was an initial move of around fifteen riders at the top of the first small climb with all the favourites, and he was already there,” Guesdon noted.

After approximately thirty kilometers, the nine-man breakaway opened a lead while the peloton maintained a gap of around three minutes. “It was a hard start, and then it was full gas pretty much all day,” said Loulergue, emphasizing the intensity of the race.

With strategic foresight, Guesdon added, “We knew everything could be decided in the last fifty kilometres, so we stayed calm, even though there weren’t many sprinters’ teams left to chase. The wind was going to make the difference.” Favorable conditions allowed the breakaway to maintain their lead, especially with Ineos having a rider in front.

As the race unfolded, the breakaway’s gap began to narrow, eventually stabilizing. When the final attacks in the breakaway began, Loulergue managed to respond but could not keep pace with Laurance’s decisive move in the last five kilometers. “He was starting to struggle,” Guesdon admitted. “You could sense some fatigue and that he was relying a bit on the others.”

While only Laurance crossed the finish line alone, Loulergue sprinted fiercely to claim fourth place. Reflecting on his near miss, he said, “It’s frustrating to come so close to victory again. It’s the second time this year I’ve finished fourth. That said, after such a strong day out front, I was a bit drained in the final. I’m still happy because I’m in the mix, but I want more and I’m here to try to win races.”

Guesdon remained optimistic about the team’s performance, particularly given their youthful roster. “We were quite active this weekend… Rémi finished sixth overall and best young rider, and Guillaume was just outside the top ten. There are plenty of positives.” The only clouds on the horizon were the crashes of Blake and Lorenzo in the final kilometer, which slightly marred a successful weekend.

As Victor Loulergue continues his campaign to find victory, the cycling community eagerly awaits his next challenge, confident that his perseverance will soon pay off.
