Team Visma | Lease a Bike shows ambition in opening stage UAE Tour Women
# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Unveils Potential in UAE Tour Women’s Opening Stage
After a commendable performance in Australia, Team Visma | Lease a Bike has redirected its focus to the UAE Tour Women, with the flat course of the opening stage proving to be a challenging yet strategic battleground. The anticipated sprint finish in Madinat Zayed saw dynamics shift as strong winds split the peloton, complicating the race for the Dutch team.
Martina Fidanza, a key sprinter for Team Visma, faced an early setback as she was distanced from the pack. However, under the guidance of sports director Jos van Emden, the team regrouped, positioning Nienke Veenhoven favorably for the final sprint. Ultimately, she finished thirteenth, with the stage victory claimed by Lorena Wiebes of Team SD Worx.
“We rode a good opening stage up until the final kilometers,” Van Emden reflected after the race, acknowledging the effort of his team despite unexpected challenges.
Femke de Vries also made a significant contribution, partaking with ambitions for the general classification. She successfully secured three bonus seconds during the intermediate sprint. “Femke did that extremely well,” Van Emden praised. “It’s a great first step toward a strong overall result here. These seconds could turn out to be important heading into Sunday.” He pointed to the final stage concluding atop Jebel Hafeet as a critical objective for the team.
While Van Emden expressed disappointment over circumstances that hindered their original strategy, he remains optimistic about the upcoming stages, noting, “Of course, we missed Martina in the finale. I think we rode a very good opening stage up until the final kilometers. Hopefully, we can improve tomorrow.”
As the team prepares for the following stages, the excitement builds for what promises to be a competitive showing in the UAE Tour Women.
