Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe tries again: Jai Hindley fights for stage win
As in yesterday’s stage, the battle for victory was fierce from the start. Many teams tried their luck on the hilly terrain between Gap and Barcelonnette. For Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe the day was also about the chance to win the stage. It was only after 30 kilometers of racing that a large group formed. Nearly 40 riders broke away, including Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe’s Jai Hindley and Matteo Sobrero. The pace remained high on the course with its many climbs. The peloton was whittled down and the gap to the GC favorites grew to over 10 minutes. There was a crash on the descent of the last categorized climb of the day. Jai Hindley, who had started the descent in fifth place, was just able to avoid the rider who crashed in front of him – the three riders in front built up a small lead. They went into the final 30km with just a 10-second lead over Jai Hindley – and extended it to the finish to take the day’s victory.
