‘Coppi e Bartali,’ for Ulissi stage and jersey in Sogliano
Diego Ulissi, from Livorno, class of ’89, of Uae Team Emirates, won the Riccione – Sogliano al Rubicone, the second stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali. With this victory also came first place in the overall standings of the race organized by Gruppo Sportivo Emilia. Decisive was a sprint in the last two hundred meters, which allowed him to catch up with the two who had taken an advantage just before (Ryan and De Pretto), going to exult at the finish line.THE CRONACY After the start, from Viale Ceccarini, an eight-man breakaway was born: Lennert Teugels (Bingoal WB), Manuele Tarozzi (VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè), Joey Rosskopf (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Giosuè Epis (Arkéa – B&B Hôtels), Nicolò Garibbo (Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna), Lorenzo Ginestra (Work Service – Vitalcare – Dynatek), Davide Bauce (Mg.K Vis – Colors for Peace) and Jeferson A. Ruiz (GW Erco Shimano). Maximum lead of 4’10” at km 44, then the margin starts to decrease: the last three to be caught up are Teugels, Tarozzi and Garibbo, with just over 25 kilometers to go, ahead of the last lap. Just on the penultimate passage to the finish line here is the attack of Giulio Pellizzari (Vf Group – Bardiani Csf – Faizanè) and Fernando Diego Pescador (GW Erco Shimano), who shortly after are caught. Then the attempt of Giovanni Carboni (Jcl Team Ukyo) with Jonathan Caicedo (Petrolike) and Hartthijs De Vries (Tdt Unibet). The latter remained alone in the lead with eleven kilometers to go, accumulated a maximum margin of 43″, but was caught with 4 kilometers to go. The group, about 40 men strong, then became compact again, but leader Marco Brenner (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), winner of yesterday’s stage, broke away. Within sight of the red triangle to sprint is Irishman Archie Ryan (Ed Education First), followed by Davide De Pretto (Team Jayco Alula). However, the two are caught and pulled away by Ulissi with 150 meters to go, which the Livorno native cuts with a few meters margin over the others, with De Pretto and Ryan completing the podium. In the overall standings, Ulissi (former winner of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali in 2013) has 7″ on De Pretto and 9″ on Ryan.THE JERSEYS: General classification leader (Sidermec): Diego Ulissi (Uae Team Emirates) Points classification leader (Selle SMP): Diego Ulissi (Uae Team Emirates) Leader gpm classification (Comune di Forlì): Manuele Tarozzi (VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè) Youth classification leader (Felsineo): Davide De Pretto (Team Jayco Alula)> ORDER OF ARRIVAL SECOND ROUND> GENERAL TIME CLASSIFICATION> GENERAL POINTS CLASSIFICATION> GENERAL GPM CLASSIFICATION> YOUNG GENERAL CLASSIFICATION TOMORROW THIRD STAGE, RICCIONE-RICCIONE Km 134.5 Tomorrow, Thursday, March 21, the third stage will start again from Riccione, where the finish line will also be placed.
