Groupama-FDJ’s Bittersweet Performance in the Team Time Trial at Paris-Nice

The Groupama-FDJ cycling team delivered a solid, yet unlucky performance in the crucial Paris-Nice team time trial. Despite their best efforts, they faced challenges due to unfavourable weather conditions that impacted their overall standings in the race.

The team tackled the event over twenty-seven kilometers around Auxerre, with the race’s uniqueness lying in stopping the time at the first rider to cross the line. After a promising start with a strong performance at the intermediate checkpoint, they encountered difficulties in the second half of the race. Team manager Anthony Bouillod acknowledged the disadvantage faced by teams starting last, stating, “The teams that started at the end were at a disadvantage.”

Despite technical excellence and strategic planning, the changing weather conditions posed a hurdle for Groupama-FDJ. Rider Laurence Pithie, who wore the yellow jersey, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “It was an honour for me to wear the yellow jersey.” Meanwhile, David Gaudu highlighted the team’s efforts, noting that they couldn’t have gone any faster despite their best attempts.

The team finished in fourteenth place, one minute and one second behind the leading UAE Team Emirates, leading to a mix of disappointment and acceptance. Looking ahead, Team Manager Anthony Bouillod reflected on the race, mentioning, “Starting last didn’t help us, but we were all happy with Laurence’s yellow jersey yesterday. We have no regrets from this point of view.”

As the race progresses, Laurence Pithie is currently in twenty-seventh place, with David Gaudu following closely in thirty-second place. The upcoming stages, including challenging climbs, offer new opportunities for the team to showcase their strength and determination. The race continues towards Mont Brouilly, setting the stage for a thrilling competition amidst the changing fortunes of the riders.
