Team Visma’s Markus and Vos Impress with Top Ten Finish at Strade Bianche
In the 10th edition of the Italian spring classic Strade Bianche, the Team Visma riders, Riejanne Markus and Marianne Vos, showcased their competitive spirit and teamwork. Despite numerous attack attempts, Markus found herself in the leading group early on, with Vos later joining an elite group after a decisive move by Lotte Kopecky.
Reflecting on the race, Markus expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “As a team, we rode a very good race. The final was just too much for me, but I am proud of the team’s performance.” Vos echoed her teammate’s sentiment, acknowledging their collective effort, “We rode well as a team today… I was just not good enough today, but overall, we can look back with contentment.”
Sport director Jos van Emden praised the riders, deeming their seventh and ninth-place finishes as an “excellent performance.” He highlighted the challenging weather conditions and commended Markus for her strong final push, noting Vos’s resilience throughout the race.
The victory ultimately went to Lotte Kopecky in a hard-fought battle at Piazza del Campo. The results of the Strade Bianche Donne saw Kopecky on the top step, with Team Visma’s Markus finishing 7th and Vos in 9th place, further solidifying their team’s presence among the elite cyclists in women’s cycling.
