Marianne Vos Triumphs in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Opener

After a captivating race at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Marianne Vos emerged victorious in a thrilling sprint finish, showcasing her remarkable strength and skills on the road. Vos, along with her companions Kopecky, Longo Borghini, and van Anrooij, navigated the challenging Kapelmuur and Bosberg climbs before sprinting to the finish in Ninove to secure her first win of the season.

“This victory means a lot to me,” Vos expressed after the race. “To be able to start the new season like this, I never dared to dream beforehand. That it was also my debut in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad made it even more beautiful.”

Describing the intense competition, Vos remarked, “It was a very tough race… Everyone knew how strong Kopecky was. On the road she showed she had a set of good legs. It was clear she was going to try to attack on the Kapelmuur and on the Bosberg.” Vos highlighted the need for collective effort to counter Kopecky’s threats during the crucial stages of the race.

Reflecting on her journey back to competitive form following surgery, Vos shared, “It’s very nice to see how my family, my girlfriend, and my friends sympathised with this story. It was a long road to be back here, but I was able to prepare optimally for this start of the season. I am very happy.”

Vos’s victory not only marks a personal triumph but also adds to the success of Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women, who have now clinched two wins in the early season races.

Through her resilience and stellar performance, Marianne Vos has set a strong tone for the upcoming women’s cycling events, showcasing her unwavering determination and competitive spirit on the road.
