Sixth place for Kelderman in wind-swept opening time trial O Gran Camiño

Title: Wind-Swept Opening Time Trial at O Gran Camiño: Kelderman Secures Sixth Place

Like last year, the weather conditions proved to be a game-changer in the first stage of O Gran Camiño, as strong gusts of wind caused dangerous situations. The organization made modifications, with all riders using conventional road bikes and finish line differences not counting towards the classification.

Wilco Kelderman, securing sixth place with a time of 19:23, reflected, “I trained hard for it, so I wanted to hit the gas today.” He added, “It is unfortunate that circumstances forced a halt to the race, but I am looking forward to the coming days.”

Sport director Frans Maassen supported the decision to adapt the stage, emphasizing, “Safety comes first, so I’m glad we all agreed.”

The stage resulted in Joshua Tarling of INEOS Grenadiers securing the top spot, with Kelderman ranking sixth. Despite the challenging conditions, the stage set the tone for the upcoming races of O Gran Camiño – The Historical Route.
