Ilan Van Wilder’s impressive performance at Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca saw the young cyclist secure his second top ten finish of the week. The challenging race, featuring three classified climbs and tough altitude meters, posed a rigorous test for the riders.
The race witnessed an early breakaway led by Mattia Cattaneo, who worked alongside two other riders and managed to stay off the front for over 50 kilometers before being reeled in by the peloton. Another breakaway later formed but was also absorbed before the descent to Coll de Puig Major.
The crucial 14km climb proved to be the toughest of the week, showcasing the remarkable effort of Ilan Van Wilder, who bridged across to the leaders with the support of his teammates. Despite losing contact with the leading trio after the big attacks, Van Wilder demonstrated resilience and rode a solid tempo, ultimately securing a commendable fifth position in Selva.
Reflecting on his performance, Van Wilder expressed his gratitude towards the team, stating, “The team did a great race, and I’m thankful for that. It’s only my second race of the season, so to finish again in the top ten, especially after such a tough race, is a good result that gives me a lot of confidence for the next events.”
Van Wilder’s consistent displays of strength and determination in the challenging race series serve as a promising indicator for his upcoming events, with the young Belgian cyclist poised for further success in the competitive cycling circuit.
