Wout Van Aert Concludes Cyclocross Season with Victory in Benidorm
Wout Van Aert wrapped up his cyclocross season with a triumphant win in Benidorm after a successful training camp in Spain. Van Aert expressed his determination to finish the season on a high note, stating, “I won’t ride with the brakes on. I want to give everything I have and feel good about the cyclocross season.”
The race in Benidorm was not without its challenges for Van Aert, as his pedal came loose shortly after the start, but he managed to regain the lead by the third lap. Reflecting on his performance, Van Aert shared, “It’s always good to win a race, but it wasn’t the most important thing today.”
Van Aert also expressed satisfaction in being able to compete fiercely, particularly against Mathieu van der Poel, stating, “I was able to dig deep and fight with Mathieu. I haven’t been able to do that this winter.”
Despite a late crash and a broken saddle, Van Aert secured his third win of the season, expressing his relief in managing to finish the cyclocross season with a positive feeling. Looking ahead, Van Aert’s coach, Mathieu Heijboer, highlighted Van Aert’s focused preparation for the upcoming road race campaign. “Wout has used several cyclocross races to prepare for the road season.”
Van Aert’s commitment to a gradual build-up and strategic training approach has been instrumental in his recent progress, setting a promising tone for his road race campaign, which commences in three weeks.
