Fem van Empel, a prominent figure in the world of women’s cycling, recently secured second place at the Gavere World Cup. The challenging course, which attracted over 15,000 fans on Boxing Day, saw van Empel facing a tough battle. Despite her struggle, she managed to finish in second place, ending her impressive winning streak.

Van Empel shared her thoughts on the race, acknowledging the strength of her competitor, Pieterse. She expressed, “One rider was stronger today. Puck deserved this win. I could not give everything.” Despite facing difficulties, van Empel highlighted the lessons learned from the race. She explained, “The race taught me a lot. I didn’t give up and still managed to finish second. That’s the big positive from today.”

Looking ahead, van Empel is gearing up for two more cross-country races. On 27 December, she will participate in Heusden-Zolder, followed by another race in Hulst three days later. Van Empel’s determination and resilience continue to shape her impressive career in women’s cycling.
