Struggling Van Empel takes second place in Gavere World Cup

Fem van Empel, a prominent cyclist, recently secured a second-place finish in the Gavere World Cup event, demonstrating her perseverance despite initial challenges. Over 15,000 enthusiastic spectators gathered to witness the intense competition in Belgium, where Van Empel navigated the demanding course, reflecting on her performance, she acknowledged, “One rider was stronger today” while embracing the victory deservedly earned by Pieterse. Van Empel’s determination and resilience shone through as she overcame difficulties and finished the race in second place.

Discussing her experience, Van Empel noted, “The race taught me a lot”, highlighting the valuable insights gained from the event. Despite facing setbacks in the early stages of the race, she expressed mixed emotions, citing a lack of control on descents and the cautious approach to safeguard her knee. However, she remained determined, emphasizing, “I didn’t give up and still managed to finish second. That’s the big positive from today.”

Looking ahead, the 21-year-old cyclist is set to participate in two upcoming cross-country races, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to the sport. Van Empel is scheduled to compete in Heusden-Zolder on December 27th, followed by the Hulst race three days later.
