Van Aert looking forward to start of cyclocross season in Essen
Title: Wout Van Aert Eager to Kick Off Cyclocross Season with a New Strategy
Cyclocross rider Wout Van Aert, 29, is looking forward to the start of the cyclocross season after making a conscious decision to shorten his race program. In an interview, Van Aert stated, “It’s a conscious decision to do a shorter programme”—a strategic move to optimize his focus for the spring classics. He explained that last year, he found it mentally difficult to transition from the cyclocross season to the spring classics, motivating him to opt for a more limited schedule.
Van Aert acknowledged the challenges he might face due to the shortened program, adding, “It will definitely be difficult to reach a high level…I hope to prove myself during these races.” Despite the uncertainties, he is driven by a higher goal in mind and expressed excitement about the upcoming races, commenting, “It’s great to see the fans again. These races are always special for me.”
The peak of the cyclocross season for Van Aert is around Christmas, with races scheduled in Mol, Antwerp, Asper-Gavere, and Heusden-Zolder. However, he expressed reservations about participating in races such as Zonhoven and Benidorm, which may coincide with his team’s training camp in January, potentially causing scheduling challenges and fatigue buildup.
As Van Aert prepares for the season ahead, his strategic shift in approach has piqued interest and raised curiosity about how this new plan will unfold for the talented cyclist.
