Van Empel Dominates to Win The Cross of Waterloo
Cycling prodigy Fem van Empel showcased her undeniable skill and dominance in the women’s race at The Cross of Waterloo. The Dutch World Champion took control from the start, leaving her rivals in the dust and securing her second consecutive victory at this prestigious event.
Van Empel set a blistering pace after a false start, quickly opening up a gap between herself and her closest competitors, Puck Pieterse and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado. By the halfway mark, Van Empel had solidified her lead and continued to extend it throughout the race.
“I rode at my own pace throughout and that was enough to create a gap,” Van Empel stated confidently. Her strategy paid off, as she sailed across the finish line with a commanding 36-second lead over Pieterse. Alvarado completed the all-Dutch podium, highlighting the nation’s dominance in women’s cycling.
Reflecting on her performance, Van Empel expressed her satisfaction with the race. “I’m happy with the way the race went, and I didn’t pay too much attention to what was happening behind me,” she shared. With her victory secured, Van Empel now looks ahead to her next challenge in Overijse, Belgium.
The Cross of Waterloo is notorious for its challenging yet fast course, and Van Empel has proven herself formidable on this terrain. Last year, she emerged victorious, and this year she repeated her success. The illustrious event has previously been won by renowned cyclist Marianne Vos.
Van Empel’s win at The Cross of Waterloo further solidifies her position as a force to be reckoned with in women’s cycling. With her unwavering determination and exceptional talent, she is poised to continue making waves in the sport.
