Zana Shows Courage and Attacks His Way to the Podium at the Veneto Classic
Italian cyclist Filippo Zana showcased his bravery and attacking skills in the 2023 Veneto Classic, securing a commendable third-place finish. Zana, known for his animated style of racing, took charge of the peloton on the challenging gravel roads, making a strong move on the penultimate climb. He managed to create a gap and was later joined by UAE Team Emirates riders Marc Hirschi and Davide Formolo.
Despite being outnumbered, Zana gave it his all in the final 8km of the race. However, the numerical advantage of his rivals proved to be decisive, with Formolo ultimately claiming victory with a solo effort. Nevertheless, Zana continued to chase and crossed the finish line in an impressive third place, marking a successful end to his debut season with Team Jayco AlUla.
Reflecting on his performance, Zana commented, “I’m happy to finish off my season with a podium. I tried to go solo quite a few times, but the UAE riders were able to work as a double, and it was quite impossible to overcome them. I knew the roads very well and gave it everything I had. Now I’ll look forward to a break, and to coming back for the new s
eason refreshed and ready to go again!”
