Experienced Italian Alessandro De Marchi Renews Contract with Team Jayco AlUla
Team Jayco AlUla has announced that Italian cyclist Alessandro De Marchi will continue with the team for the 2024 season after signing a new one-year deal. Despite joining the team late for the 2023 season, De Marchi has proven his worth with a series of impressive performances, particularly at the Giro d’Italia.
De Marchi’s strong showing at the Giro d’Italia, where he narrowly missed out on victory with his gutsy breakaway rides, showcased his professional attitude and wealth of knowledge gained from years of racing at the highest level. The 37-year-old’s experience has been a valuable asset to the young squad and he is eager to continue his successful career with Team Jayco AlUla.
Brent Copeland, General Manager of the team, expressed his satisfaction with De Marchi’s contributions, saying, “We have been very pleased with Alessandro… he’s been a true professional and he showed that at the Giro d’Italia as well as other races. He’s a really good example for the younger riders, he has a lot to give, and we are pleased to keep him onboard. We think Alessandro is a big asset for the young riders and for the team itself.”
De Marchi himself expressed his happiness with the team, stating, “I am very happy with the reality I encountered here… This was a fundamental factor in feeling like I was in a new start, a new chapter. The most natural continuation of this feeling is the renewal for another season. I look to next season with great optimism, confident that I will be placed in an excellent working environment and aware that I will have everyone’s support to continue to improve.”
De Marchi, born on May 19th, 1986, has an impressive cycling resume with notable achievements including a 3rd place finish at Giro d’Italia – Stage 10 in 2023 and victories at races such as Tre Valli Varesine, Giro dell’Emilia, and multiple stages at Vuelta a España and Criterium du Dauphine.
