Milan Vader Claims Victory in the Queen Stage and Takes the Leader’s Jersey in the Gree-Tour of Guangxi
Milan Vader of Team Jumbo-Visma emerged triumphant in the fourth stage of the Gree-Tour of Guangxi, securing the leader’s jersey in the process. The challenging 163-kilometre stage featured a final climb with a gradient of 6 percent. After an early breakaway group was caught by the peloton, Vader made a decisive move in the final 300 metres to claim his first career victory. Reflecting on his win, Vader expressed his emotional connection to the triumph, stating, “This is a victory from the heart. After everything that happened, especially following my accident in the Tour of the Basque Country last year, winning is an incredibly special feeling. It means the world to me.”
Team Jumbo-Visma’s sports director, Maarten Wynants, was astounded by Vader’s unexpected win, acknowledging the challenges the rider had overcome. “Olav’s win yesterday was a bit unexpected, but this is perhaps even more unexpected. We were aiming for a top-10 finish with Milan, as he was not fully fit. It is nice to see him win here, even if you look at his bad crash last season and the rehabilitation process.” Wynants emphasized the team’s determination to support Vader in his pursuit of the final victory.
With the upcoming stages favoring Olav Kooij, Team Jumbo-Visma will focus on positioning him for success. The current standings in the Gree-Tour of Guangxi see Milan Vader in the lead, followed by Rémy Rochas of Cofidis and Hugh Carthy of EF Education-EasyPost.
