Sam Bennett Takes 3rd Place on Opening Stage of Tour of Guangxi

Irish cyclist Sam Bennett achieved a third-place finish on the opening stage of the Tour of Guangxi in southern China. The stage, held in the town of Beihai, featured a flat finish and was ideal for sprinters.

The day’s breakaway saw Frederik Wandahl secure the mountain jersey, while in the final bunch sprint, Bennett crossed the finish line in third place. The victory went to Italian cyclist E. Viviani.

Bennett, who had been struggling with sickness and missed training in recent weeks, expressed his satisfaction with the podium finish. He praised his team’s tactics, commenting, “The boys did a perfect job moving up in the last 2.5km. Kicking off a race with a podium is always nice!”

The Tour of Guangxi is a six-day race on the UCI World Tour calendar and attracts top cyclists from around the world.
