Primosz Roglic dominates Giro dell’Emilia, while Cecilie Ludwig claims victory in women’s race
Slovenian cyclist Primosz Roglic of Jumbo-Visma claimed his third victory at the Giro dell’Emilia-Granarolo, solidifying his dominance in the race. Roglic came out on top after a thrilling finale on the iconic “San Luca” climb in Bologna. He narrowly beat compatriot Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) to take the win, with Englishman Simon Yates (Jayco Alula) completing the podium.
Roglic’s impressive achievement puts him on par with legendary cyclists Fausto Coppi and Gianni Motta, who have also won the Giro dell’Emilia three times. The record for the most victories in this race belongs to Costante Girardengo with five wins.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Danish rider Cecilie Uttrop Ludwig of Fds-Suez emerged victorious in the Giro dell’Emilia BPER Banca Internazionale Donne Elite. Ludwig displayed her strength on the grueling double climb to San Luca, leaving the competition behind. She had previously triumphed at this finish line in 2020. Ludwig’s teammate, Marta Cavalli, secured second place, followed by French cyclist Juliette Labous (Team Dsm – Firmenich) in third.
The Giro dell’Emilia BPER Banca Internazionale Donne Elite proved to be an even more challenging race this time, with the inclusion of the double climb to San Luca. The intensified course led to a select group of riders battling it out on the final ascent, making for an exciting spectacle. Gaia Realini of Lidl Trek secured fourth place in the women’s race.
The Giro dell’Emilia continues its legacy as a prestigious race that showcases the talents of both male and female cyclists on demanding courses.
