Archie Ryan Puts on Strong Performance in Queen Stage of Tour of Luxembourg

Archie Ryan, a 21-year-old Irish cyclist, impressed spectators with his performance on the rain-soaked queen stage of the Tour of Luxembourg. Ryan attacked on the second passage of the difficult Montée de Niklosbierg, forcing the Jumbo-Visma team to chase. Although he couldn’t escape due to the efforts of EF, Ryan fought his way to a sixth-place finish on the wet cobbles.

“We wanted to go for the win today,” said Maarten Wynants, sports director for Jumbo-Visma. “Tiesj was our man to do it, but he didn’t feel as good as we’d hoped. We were also up against an incredibly strong Healy. Luckily, Archie rode a good race. He managed to get away with the best climbers on the steepest parts. That’s an excellent performance from such a young rider.”

Despite the challenging course and tough competition, Wynants remained hopeful that the team could still achieve success. “Archie’s chances of closing the gap were very slim. The climb was followed by a valley where the breakaway rider was basically at a disadvantage. So, it seemed important to use our strengths across the board. But today, it was a different scenario. Sam Oomen and Koen Bouwman returned strongly to help, but sixth place was the maximum we could achieve.”

In the overall standings, Ben Healy of EF Education-EasyPost took the stage win, with Ryan finishing in sixth place. However, the Jumbo-Visma team still maintained a strong presence with Tiesj Benoot finishing in tenth place.

The Tour of Luxembourg continues with more stages, providing plenty of opportunities for Ryan and the Jumbo-Visma team to showcase their skills.
