Jakobsen Takes Third Place in Koolskamp Photo-Finish Sprint
Fabio Jakobsen narrowly missed out on defending his title at the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen race, finishing in third place after a close finish that required the jury to determine the winner. Jakobsen was only a few centimeters behind Jasper Philipsen, who claimed victory in the 165.1km race, making it Soudal Quick-Step’s 110th podium of the season.
The Soudal Quick-Step team played a significant role in controlling the race, with Jordi Warlop contributing strongly in the peloton. However, Warlop was unfortunate to be involved in a crash and had to withdraw from the race, sustaining minor injuries to his knee and elbow.
Jakobsen, who benefited from a great lead-out by Michael Mørkøv, secured his 12th podium finish of the season. Reflecting on the race, Jakobsen commented, “We had a very strong team today, and I came close but just wasn’t fast enough. Maybe if I had timed it a bit later, I could have maintained my speed, but that’s sprinting. However, I am motivated for Sunday’s Gooikse Pijl race, which will be my last race as the European Champion. I want to finish my time with the Wolfpack in style.”
