Roglic Leads Jumbo-Visma to Victory on Legendary Angliru Climb
Primož Roglic of Team Jumbo-Visma claimed a memorable victory on the mythical Angliru climb during Stage 17 of La Vuelta Ciclista a España. Roglic’s win solidified his team’s dominance in the race, with teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Sepp Kuss finishing in second and third place respectively.
“It’s great to take the win on this climb,” Roglic said. “The Angliru is one of the most famous climbs in the world. The mountain has a rich history, and the gradients are unprecedented. I wanted to win this stage.”
Roglic’s victory was a result of strong teamwork, with his teammates Kuss and Vingegaard providing crucial support on the challenging climb. “Sepp told us to give everything,” Roglic explained. “I told Sepp to keep fighting and to believe in himself. He heroically fought his way to the finish. We are here for a bigger goal, and that is to win the Vuelta with the team.”
Team Jumbo-Visma has been performing exceptionally well in this year’s Vuelta, with a total of five stage victories so far. “Claiming first, second, and third place, we passed this tough test with flying colors,” said a delighted Sepp Kuss. “Things are looking good for Team Jumbo-Visma. But there is still a lot to do in the coming days.”
With Roglic’s second win of the Vuelta, Team Jumbo-Visma now has a total of 61 victories in the 2023 season. The team currently sits in strong positions in the overall rankings, with Kuss leading the pack, closely followed by Vingegaard and Roglic.
As the race enters its final stages, Team Jumbo-Visma remains focused on their ultimate goal of winning the Vuelta. “The time differences don’t lie. It is up to us to give everything in the remaining stages,” Kuss emphasized.
The team’s outstanding performance on the Angliru climb further strengthens their position and reinforces their status as one of the top teams in professional cycling.
